Speakers Walid Hegazy

Dr. Walid Hegazy has over 30 years of legal experience representing and advisingclients on transactions and disputes involving the commercial laws and regulationsof many MENA countries, including: Egypt, UAE, KSA, Qatar, and Libya. Herecently founded the Lex Maxima Global Legal Alliance.

Dr. Hegazy's main areas of expertise include Islamic banking and finance, projectfinancing, corporate restructuring, corporate govemance, and commercialarbitration. Dr. Hegazy has both LLM and SJD(Doctor of Juridical Science)degrees from Harvard Law School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He is consideredto be one of the leading experts in sukuk issuances, Islamic finance applications,and Shariah-compliant dispute resolution.

Dr. Hegazy previously headed the Islamic finance practice group at the international law firm of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer (Dubai, UAE and Riyadh,KSA). He has also practiced law at Fulbright & Jaworski (Houston, Tx), Baker &McKenzie(Riyadh, KSA), White & Case (New York), Groupe Monassier (Paris),fommerly known as "Monassier & Agassi,"and Zaki Hashem (Cairo).

Currently, Dr. Hegazy serves as the Deputy Chairman of the Accounting andAuditing Association for Islamic Financial Institutions' (AAOIF) Govemance andEthics Committee and has presented seminal lectures at key Islamic financeevents, such as the Al Baraka Forum and the annual AAOIFl Shariah Boards'Conference. He is also a monthly contributor to Islamic Finance News.
