Prakhar Sharma is the General Counsel at the National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF), India’s sovereign-backed fund, which plays a pivotal role in financing infrastructure and driving long-term capital formation in the country. In this capacity, he leads NIIF’s legal, compliance, and governance functions, providing strategic counsel on complex transactions, regulatory frameworks, and risk management.
With over two decades of leadership experience across diversified conglomerates and the banking and financial services sector, Prakhar has spearheaded cross-border M&As, private equity and capital markets transactions, insolvency and bankruptcy matters, and high-value domestic and international litigations and dispute resolutions.
His expertise spans diverse sectors— Infrastructure, renewables, energy, oil & gas, financial services, pharma & healthcare, technology (IT/ITES), manufacturing, mining, and telecom —across geographies including North America, Europe, Middle East, Africa, Southeast Asia, and India.
Prior to NIIF, Prakhar held leadership roles at Kotak Mahindra Bank, Kotak Alts and the Tata Group.
He is a recognized thought leader and frequent speaker at national and international forums on emerging legal issues. He also serves on the CII Task Force on Insolvency and Bankruptcy Laws and regularly engages with regulators on legal and governance frameworks.
Prakhar holds professional qualifications as a Chartered Accountant (CA), Company Secretary (CS), and a law degree (LLB).
